Abfüller – A.D. Rattray
Die
Krise in den frühen Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts und in den 1920igern
trafen die Andrew Dewar Rattray Limited empfindlich. Dies führte
schließlich zum Verkauf des Unternehmens . Die Firma A.D. Rattray
Limited wurde 1938 von William Walker aufgekauft. William Walker war
ein Whiskybroker mit guten Kontakten und wollte durch den Kauf
kleinerer Händler sein Einflussgebiet erhöhen. Bis zu Walkers Tod
führte er weiterhin die Geschäfte von A.D. Rattray Limited. [1]
Tim
Morrison, ein Nachkomme der 4. Generation von Andrew Dewar Rattray,
übernahm die Firma und brachte im Jahre 2002 eine neue Abfüllung
"Stronachie 12YO" auf den Markt. Gerade Whiskies aus dieser
Destillerie wurde damals unter Andrew Dewar Rattray in den späten
1880igern am meisten verkauft. Hiermit wollte man also direkt eine
Brücke zur Vergangenheit schlagen. Im Jahre 2004 folgten weitere
Whisky-Abfüllungen. [1]
Erwähnenswert
ist die Verbidnung von Tim Morrison und der Bowmore Distillery. Diese
wurde an den japanischen Getränkehersteller Suntory verkauft. Der
heutige Fokus der Firma liegt auf Stronachie, Cask Islay und Bank
Note Marken. D.h. Rum wird wpohl auch weiterhin ein Exot unter den
Abfüllungen dieses "Indys" bleiben. Viele waren es bisher
ohnehin nicht. Diese waren wohl in erster Linie für Whisky-Genießer
gedacht, die mal etwas besonders und fremdartiges im Glas haben
wollten. A.D. Rattray macht bisher keine Antsalten tiefer ins
Rum-Geschäft einsteigen zu wollen. [1] [2]

"Founded by Andrew Dewar Rattray in 1868, A D Rattray began
trading as an importer of French wines, Italian spirits and olive
oil. More importantly, however, the company also established itself
as a specialist in the field of blending and storage of malt and
grain whiskies.
In
the latter part of the 1800s A D Rattray Ltd came to represent a
number of well-known Highland Malt distilleries – most notably
Stronachie – selling bulk whisky to West of Scotland wine and
spirit merchants, publicans and the main Scotch whisky blending
houses in and around Glasgow.
Like
many other merchants, A D Rattray Ltd suffered during the crisis of
the early 1900s and in the late 1920s the partners sold the business
to William Walker. Well-established as a whisky broker, Walker set
about expanding the business with the acquisition of a number of
smaller merchants. Despite rationing during the 2nd World War, the
company continued to supply the West of Scotland licensed trade until
Walker’s death.
A
D Rattray Ltd has now returned to the family and is owned by Mr Tim
Morrison, previously of Morrison Bowmore Distillers and fourth
generation descendent of Andrew Dewar Rattray. The company’s
resurgence came about in 2002 with the bottling of a ‘new’
Stronachie 12yo. In April 2004, using his extensive knowledge and
expertise in the whisky industry, Mr Morrison then bottled a
selection of his own handpicked stock of whiskies for market release
and the A D Rattray Cask Collection was born.
Today
the company’s principal purpose is to promote the Stronachie, Cask
Islay and Bank Note brands and bottle unusual and exclusive casks of
Scotch whisky as part of the A D Rattray Cask Collection range. "

"(...)Glasgow City Council has approved plans for a new £10
million whisky distillery and visitor centre in the bank of the
River Clyde. The development is being led by AD Rattray Scotch
Whisky Company owner Tim Morrison, who was previously of
Morrison Bowmore Distillers.
It will be the first
new distillery to be built in Glasgow in 100 years, and the plans
are for a small batch distillery with expected annual output limited
to around 200,000 bottles a year. Morrison, whose family sold
the Morrison Bowmore to Japanese drinks firm Suntory in 1994, is
leading the financing the development.
Plans for the site,
which sits between the Riverside Museum and the Hydro Arena in
Glasgow, include the refurbishment of an historic pump house building
to house a whisky museum and visitor centre. A new building will
house a shop, cafe, whisky tasting bar and the single malt Scotch
whisky distillery.
Work is scheduled to
get under way later this year, with it completed by autumn 2015, and
the developers estimate the build cycle will support around 300 jobs,
